Introducing PRFerry.org

PRFerry.org is a mobile friendly website created by GenerationGives to help the community reduce uncertainty around ferry journeys for trips to and from Vieques, Culebra, and Ceiba Puerto Rico.

Using this page, anyone may view live vessel positions or subscribe to text message notifications. Subscribing to notifications by boat or port provides a text message alert as each vessel arrives at a port, departs a port, and when a vessel has passed the half-way point of any predicted journey. You can subscribe or unsubscribe to alerts at any time.

Simply select the boat or port you want to view. Click subscribe, enter your phone number and pick a time frame of how long you will need the alerts. You will receive a 4-digit code by text message – to confirm enrollment. Enter it and click subscribe.

To generate these alerts the PRFerry.org application receives vessel position updates every few minutes, which are used to track and display any ship position on the map. If the app has not seen a position update for more than 20 minutes a message is shown. The signal can be interrupted for any number of reasons, tracking resumes when the signal returns.

Using the position data our pattern recognition software attempts to calculate an estimated arrival time of any vessel regardless of any published schedule based on each vessel’s current heading and speed. Though PRFerry.org is using the best positioning data available, this volunteer service is not able to provide any guarantee of timing or accuracy of the information presented or shared at any point of use, though we will do our absolute best. .

As an independent volunteer effort, not affiliated with any ferry service provider, the PRFerry.org app will continue to update when any vessels are added to the fleets servicing Vieques, Culebra, and Ceiba as fast as possible.

Please share your apps suggestions, experiences, and feedback to support@prferry.org
